You should ask if you can have a Blogging Addendum to your contract. Tell them that you'll retract your acceptance of the promotion unless they give you more blogging time. I can't believe they didn't offer it in the beginning; I hear more companies are starting to do it.

don't they know any better? surely the guys in IT know and love your blog. they must have some allowance for non work time.
That's why I don't really update my blog. The new job keeps me too busy.
