Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start

Over the holidays I "aquired" a disk with 12,000 songs. Some recent, but largely older music.

Over the holidays I saw the movie Juno and immediately went home and downloaded the soundtrack from itunes. That's all I listen to.

So, as my ipod currently stands, I have 5700 songs loaded and I only listen to 19 of them.

I need motivation to expand. But, I'm overwhhelmed. I don't know where to start.

So, tell me who to listen to that's not too new and hip, but oldish and cool. You tell me Eddie Money is cool? Done, I'm listening to a little Take Me Home Tonight. Dropkick Murphy's? Done. You tell me to listen to The Lightnening Seeds, Lionel Richine, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Lisa Loeb, London Symphony Orchestra? Done. Done. Done. Done. Done.

I just need some motivation.

Who doesn't know the cheat code to Contra?

Nice!

It's a lyric to one of the songs on the Juno soundtrack.

"up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start, just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart."

Who to listen to? One word...ABBA!

I am so turned on right now Pixie.

Check out Django Reinhardt if you like Jazz or Bluegrass.

I also recommend George Harrison's solo work; any and all of it is good.

Have you ever heard of the musical genre of trip hop? Well, if not, check it out. Here are some good bands: Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Tricky, Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Emiliana Torrini, Bjork, Zero 7, Lamb and Beth Orton. That should hold you over for a while.

Well, some of those people I named are solo artists. You get my point. (Hopefully....)

I did the same thing you did when I saw 'Juno'. Why don't you try downloading some Kimya Dawson or The Velvet Underground? I like 'I'm Sticking With You'.

Last night I told James that my friend had downloaded Contra for Wii and he immediately said "Up, up, down, down..."

Btw, you can't go wrong with some David Bowie. Nope, can't go wrong.

I'm with Melissa. You can never go wrong with Bowie.

I also just downloaded the Juno soundtrack and it is rocking my world.

As for a music suggestion, if you wanted something you could listen to with Kenslee in the car, I highly recommend "Free to be You and Me" by Marlo Thomas & Friends. It's from the 70's and I love it. It's not hard on the ears (I'm so tired of our "Sing with your Baby" CD and that damn Teddy Bear Picnic Song I could cry tears of blood) and the music is catchy and it's funny. Also, you can't go wrong with Rosy Grier singing "It's Alright to Cry."

I absolutely agree with JQ on the Harrison collection. I also recommend the Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty, and ELO. They all have a similar sound since the were friends and peers. Good stuff.

i don't listen to much music that's sung in english but i recommend Leo Imai if you want some hip music that's in both Japanese and English. I always recommend Frank Sinatra. I love anything and everything by him. Elvis Costello (the "real" king) is always a sure thing. "Japanese Gum" or "Meet the Pressure" by Her Space Holiday are good, too but kind of depressing.
I don't know.... Heart. Fleetwood Mac. I'm sure you know to listen to them by now, though. :)

I'm digging Wilco, Guster, and The Jayhawks these days.

The title of this post rocks. I see Pixie is all over this Contra code.

If you go see the movie a second time, after you memorize the sountrack, it's really distracting-just FYI.

I don't know if thise fits your criteria, but I live for Rilo Kiley.

Also, Pinback, Cat Power, The Elected, Jonathan Rice, Scissor Sisters . . .

OK, I'll stop now.

Don't forget "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start" if you're playing with a partner. :)

I'm a big Beatles fan. Also, The Band, Bob Dylan, CCR, Queen, Al Green, and James Brown. Hopefully you have something by Al Green and/or James Brown. You gotta rock some "Reverend" and "Godfather."

My daughter loves "I Got You (I Feel Good)." She likes to do the little scream at the beginning and then shake her hips. You can't listen to James Brown and not want to dance.

Jeez, this is the comment of a thousand italics.

I agree with Egan, Wilco rocks!
I also agree with Jacob! Every one of the artist he named rocks! Why am I using exclamation points!?!

Um, yes again to Wilco.
