I posted this on my baby blog, but I like it, so it's going here too. bitches.

There’s a lot I look forward to in being a dad. With a boy, the thing I most look forward to is having catches, playing sports and all other guy stuff that dads and sons do. With a girl I think I’ll probably be the kind of dad who has no problems having a make believe tea party with my girl and other things like that. With girls, I’m not even sure what they like because I didn’t have any sisters growing up. But, I know I’ll enjoy every minute with her.

The other big thing that I look forward to the most is watching how kid’s minds and imaginations work. Today is Take Your Child to Work Day and a 4 and a half year old boy was just being introduced to the people around me. He was introduced to me, “This is Tim. Tim’s going to be having a baby soon.” His response was, “Why? Did he eat a baby?” I can’t wait for awesome questions like that from my kid.

I totally can't wait until my daughter says things worthy of Bill Cosby's attention. Now, my daughter does silly stuff like talking into little plastic cups because she likes the way her voice sounds. She's only 10 months, but she says stuff (I also wonder what she thinks she is saying). She currently has a vocabulary of, "No, No," "Da,"(for dad), "Ba," (for bottle), "Hi," and "Bye bye." It's definitely the shit. I am also the type who will totally have tea parties and shit like that. Currently, I lay on the floor and juggle for my daughter, much to her amusement. I also play guitar, dance with her (much to my neighbors' amusement because they can see me through the patio window). Dad-dom is awesome!

Can I call you dad?

Oh, and I actually checked out the baby Bore-a-Phil site, and that's pretty good, too. Loved the pictures of you two babysitting. Be prepared to have no idea what you are doing for the first few days. When we left the hospital, I got all scared because we didn't have nurses at home who I could ask a million questions. The nurses at the hospital actually saw how involved and inquisitive I was (because I asked so many questions) that they actually gave me the phone number to the nurses station! I never called because parenthood comes so naturally after the initial shock. I am really excited for you two! Good luck. Hopefully baby is born on May 28th, because she would then share a birthday with the Undisputed, underrooted, car-got-booted King of Blogs, Jacob Gross.

min - thanks!

mel - ha! crybaby!

pixie - go for it. and thanks

qop - yes, this is true. I have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of lying to my little one when I can't answer some of his/her questions.

ogo - I actually can't wait either. Blogging is the only reason I'm having one in ther first place.

TF - awesome comment. I'm so looking forward to it. I juggled snowballs for my neighbor's kid over the winter. He was mesmorized, and thrilled when I dropped one that smashed to pieces in the street.

conti - I love it when you call me big poppa

TF - I have a feeling we're going to walk into our house, look at the baby, look at each other, and panic.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that you and Titso went on your honeymoon with intent to procreate.

How did you come to decide you were ready to give it a go so quickly after marriage? Josh and I have been married 3 years already and were in no way ready the day we got married.

I would pay good money to see you pouring tea at an imaginary party.

Tim said...

PIX - No, we had no intentions. Titso had been on the pill for about 12 years. We thought it would take some time for her body to adjust, so she stopped taking it about 6 or 8 weeks before the wedding. We wanted to start trying to have a baby after about 8 months to a year of marriage. So, we started the "natural planning method" and the fertile time was supposed to have been over about 2 days before the wedding. You weren't reading back then, but we went a month without sex before the wedding (tried 7 weeks, but had a lapse after 3). We assumed for the first few days of marriage we could use the pull and pray method. We're pretty sure she got pregnant the first time we didn't do that, which was 2 days after the wedding, and 4 days after we thought we were safe.

ethel - if I have a girl and I'm still blogging in about 4 years, I promise to post pics/video.

aww, that's so cute.

Kids are pretty much boring until they can speak, then you get to teach them swear words.

My wife also got pregnant too quickly by accident, but my kid is perfect, so it was a good accident. My wife is totally against me posting pictures of our baby on my site (thinks it is kinda creepy), and I've never even posted a pic of myself on my site. She never said anything about posting them in Tim's comments, though.

Tim, sorry for using your comments to sneak a picture of my daughter in there, but if I layer it into the comments of a mediocre blog, then I have free reign to be a proud papa. Actually, I'm not sorry, just an underhanded husband. (I'm Three-Handed, Left-Handed, Right-Handed, and Under-handed, too.)

**should be a ":" after Three-Handed**

Found your blog by way of 'Afraid of the bark'...hope you don't mind....

One day when I am old and gray, I will know that I have truly lived...to rock on my porch and gaze at the sun setting in the sky, I will have found the true meaning of happiness....

...To have lived and to have had children.

They are quite a joy....enjoy every minute!

Congrats!

Oh my god - that was so sweet! You're gonna a be a lovely dad.

Top notch? There's a restaurant by my house called Top Notch Beefburgers. They have a cheeseburger that is $11, and I guess that's because it's top notch.

I would describe you in a more WASP-ish, old money, Harvard graduate way:

Top Drawer.

xtasy - no problem at all.. thanks for the nice words.

just - thanks!

TF - my underwear is in my top drawer... now you're calling my blog underwear?

Anonymous said...

Yes. Underwear. Now the question is, boxers or briefs? Or maybe you are a male thong. Or one of those leather-jobbies with the zipper on the front. I think it's called a banana hammock.

Your blog is a banana hammock.
